Eric Scheidler to speak at 40 Days for Life kick-off event

MADISON — Vigil for Life-Madison’s 2017 40 Days for Life Kick-off event will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, at Holy Name Heights (a.k.a. Bishop O’Connor Center).

Guest speaker will be Eric Scheidler, the executive director of the Pro-Life Action League. The league was founded in 1980 by his father, veteran pro-life leader Joe Scheidler, to fight abortion through non-violent direct action. Eric is the oldest of the seven Scheidler children.

Diocesan Office of Worship offers sessions on Mass, workshops

MADISON — The Diocese of Madison’s Office of Worship is offering a number of workshops.

Praying the Mass with Abbot Rooney

“Praying the Mass” is a series which will explore the Mass with Abbot Marcel Rooney, OSB, former abbot primate of the Benedictine Order and an advisor to popes. Abbot Rooney will discuss some history of the Mass and reflect upon how we can pray the Mass rather than simply pray at Mass.

People are invited to attend one session or all five.

Peaceful, prayerful, effective 40 Days for Life campaign to build on successes in Madison

MADISON — “On September 27, the highly successful 40 Days for Life campaign returns to Madison with 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil, and community outreach,” said Gwen Finnegan, who is coordinating the local campaign.

“We pray that these efforts will help mark the beginning of the end of abortion in the Madison area.”

Finnegan said, “We know 40 Days for Life has made a difference in Madison. Our volunteers have made extraordinary sacrifices to expose the abortion industry and to protect children and their mothers from abortion.”

Madison Catholic Woman’s Club hosts Benefit Dessert Party and Fashion Show

MADISON — The Madison Catholic Woman’s Club will host its annual Benefit Dessert Party and Fashion Show by Talbot’s with the theme, “Autumn’s Palette,” on Monday, Sept. 11. This is the club’s major fundraiser with proceeds going to charitable projects.

All women of the diocese and their guests are invited to join the club for dessert, fashions, raffle, and prizes at St. Peter Catholic Church Social Center, 5001 Sherman Ave., Madison. Doors open at 11 a.m. for raffle and seating; dessert will be served at 11:30.

Our Lady Queen of Peace students immerse themselves in faith-filled service

MADISON — So, what do you think most teenagers do during the summer? Sleep in? Head to the beach? Hang out with friends?

All of that may be true. I hope it is true — summer is summer, after all.

But summer is also a time to serve: to be the “light of Christ” in the world and to be “Sent Forth by the Spirit.”

Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Madison has students that serve all year long: as ushers, altar servers, cantors, leaders of the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, etc.

Pontifical Mass at the Throne on August 22

MONONA — On Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Monona, His Excellency Robert C. Morlino, Bishop of Madison, will celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Throne for the traditional Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

MADISON — Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Madison is excited to be opening the new Homeless Day Resource Center in Madison — named The Beacon — this October.

Sisters explore healthcare transfer to SSM Health

MADISON — The Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes (CSA) and SSM Health have signed a letter of intent to transfer sponsorship of Agnesian HealthCare based in Fond du Lac and Monroe Clinic based in Monroe.

The parties will begin a due diligence process with the goal of integrating the hospitals and affiliate organizations within the SSM Health system.

As mission-driven organizations, SSM Health and CSA share a commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability of Catholic healthcare and providing exceptional healthcare services to meet the needs of the patients and communities they serve across Wisconsin.

St. Dennis Parish holds festival

MADISON — All are invited to the 61st annual St. Dennis Parish Festival. The festival has fun for all ages and is open to the public. The festival begins at 5 p.m. Friday, July 28, and ends at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at 409 Dempsey Rd.

The festival includes live bands, children’s games, 5K road race, $10,000 grand prize raffle, 1,000 family flea market, book tent, food, soda, beer tent, bingo, all-you-can-eat beef dinner, outdoor Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday, and much more.
