Waiting for Jesus, waiting for justice: March for Life, Chicago, January 14, 2018

Why would you take a day to learn about life issues and stand in Chicago’s Federal Plaza listening to speakers like Pat McCaskey, co-owner of the Chicago Bears? What can he tell you about valuing life? Do you feel you have heard the pro-life message and not much more can be said?

St. Ambrose Academy students take part in March for Life

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Students at St. Ambrose Academy in Madison recently returned from their biennial trip to the March for Life in Washington, D.C.

The junior and senior classes, along with their chaperones, departed for the nation’s capital on January 25 for the nearly 900-mile journey.

A civilized nation does not kill babies

What a sight! Over 25 times from the top of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., I have seen a sea of people marching to proclaim the dignity of unborn human life, and how death-dealing abortion sends the unholy message that some human beings are disposable.

As I write, I am a just one day away from marching with and viewing that sea of people once again. It’s always a moral and spiritual shot-in-the-arm for me.

St. Ambrose Academy celebrates the saints at fundraiser for March for Life

MADISON — Each year, St. Ambrose Academy holds an All Saints Day party whose proceeds fund the students’ biennial journey to Washington, D.C., to march on behalf of the unborn.

Hundreds recently flocked to the wooded hills of southwestern Dane County on a sunny but crisp autumn afternoon for frolic and fellowship in support of the great cause of sending young people to the March for Life.

Saints alive!

Many of this year’s party guests dressed as saints: Gianna Mollo strolled about in a white doctor’s jacket, a little Kateri Tekakwitha rode on her uncle’s shoulders in a leather fringed wrap with feathers.

Blessed Sacrament students raise money ‘marching’ for hunger

MADISON — “Show an Attitude of Gratitude.”

That is the theme this school year at Blessed Sacrament School in Madison.

That is the reason more than 60 first, second, and third graders laced up their running shoes and ran or walked around the school block as many times as they could.

The occasion was the annual Hunger March held recently.

Helping at home and around the world

For almost 40 years, the march has been an opportunity for students to make the Catholic values they learn part of their everyday lives.

In recent years, the Hunger March has helped many people both locally and globally.

Proceeds from the march have gone to building a well in Africa, helping a family secure the first month’s rent of an apartment, helping Our Lady of Hope Clinic in Madison — a non-profit medical group that provides primary care services to the uninsured, as well as donating to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Prior to the march, the students asked parents, family members, friends, and neighbors to pledge money per lap they completed.

The march begins

As the 9 a.m. start time rolled around and the inspirational music played, the students finished their stretches and warm-ups and got ready for lap number one.

The students walked as a group for the first lap.

As they completed that lap, the students busted through a Hunger March banner and then some took off running as if they’d been waiting all day to do so.
