Pontifical Mass at the Throne on August 22

MONONA — On Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Monona, His Excellency Robert C. Morlino, Bishop of Madison, will celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Throne for the traditional Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Mass will be in the Roman Rite’s older, traditional form, sometimes called the “Extraordinary Form.” The music will be in Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony, with motets and hymns, including:

Mazzuchelli memorial Mass August 27

BENTON — The annual Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli Memorial Mass and dinner will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at St. Patrick Church in Benton.

The public is invited to attend the day’s events sponsored by the Father Mazzuchelli Assembly 1202 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Lancaster.

In awe, my five-year-old son peered over the pew during the Consecration, the most holy part of the Mass during which the host and the wine become the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Normally my youngest can be a bit rambunctious during Mass, but we try to pull him aside and point out the miracle before us at each Consecration.

Memorial Day Masses in Diocese of Madison

Memorial Day Masses will be held in the Diocese of Madison. Besides the Masses indicated here, check with local parishes for Masses being celebrated on Monday, May 29.

Madison

In Madison, a Memorial Day Mass will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 2705 Regent St., at 10 a.m. Bishop Robert C. Morlino will be the principal celebrant and homilist. Area priests will serve as concelebrants. Knights of Columbus will serve as an honor guard. The Mass will be held outdoors, but in case of rain, Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 405 S. Owen Dr. Refreshments will follow Mass.

Mary’s Rosary Garden celebrates Fatima

MINERAL POINT — Mary’s Rosary Garden located on the Wiesbrook Farm near Mineral Point will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mary’s appearance at Fatima with a Mass on Saturday, May 13, at 1 p.m.

The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13; Thursday, July 13; Sunday, Aug. 13; Wednesday, Sept. 13; and Friday, Oct. 13. Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m.

MADISON — Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison called the Mass and Eucharist a sacrifice, “The same sacrifice that was offered on Calvary.”

He added if people do not understand this, they can get bored with the Mass or even the priest, the music, or the other “consumerist elements.”
