MADISON — The Theater Bus for persons 55 and over will be traveling to the following events in May:
• Sunday, May 7: The Rhode Center for the Arts presents The Big Five-Oh!, a hilarious, sometimes touching account of a grown man coming to terms with his age, his relationship with his son, and his future. Lunch is at the Kenosha Country Club. Cost is $73.

One Rosary, prayed once, contains 53 Hail Marys. More than 12,000 Rosaries, prayed once, contain more than a half million Hail Marys.
Rosary March to be held May 3 in Madison
MADISON — The 77th Semi-Annual International Rosary March and May Crowning will be held on Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 120 W. Johnson St.
A 15-decade Rosary will be prayed in procession around the block and inside the church. The Rosary procession will be followed by the presentation of a May crown and flowers to Our Lady, a homily by Fr. Ivan Strmecki, OFM (Sacred Heart Croation Parish in Milwaukee), and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Praying for peace: Imploring Our Blessed Mother’s intercession
Our country and our world continue to experience violence, war, and unrest every day. This past month we’ve witnessed acts of terrorism in the United States and abroad, along with murders, kidnapping, and bombings in many parts of the globe.
May is the month traditionally dedicated to Mary, Our Blessed Mother. She has been called the “Queen of Peace,” so it might behoove us to implore her intercession for peace in our world.
Encyclical issued in 1965
On April 29, 1965, Pope Paul VI issued an encyclical called Mense Maio, “The Month of May,” which was dedicated to the “preservation of peace.” The document was published five months after the promulgation of the Second Vatican Council’s Apostolic Constitution, Lumen Gentium. It has been said that the political struggle with communism was the underlying cause for Pope Paul VI writing this encyclical, which still resonates with us today.
In this encyclical, the Holy Father said, “Our heart rejoices at the thought of the moving tribute of faith and love which will soon be paid to the Queen of Heaven in every corner of the earth. For this is the month during which Christians, in their churches and their homes, offer the Virgin Mother more fervent and loving acts of homage and veneration; and it is the month in which a greater abundance of God’s merciful gifts comes down to us from our Mother’s throne.”
We thank God for our mothers
Some mothers claim that they would do anything for their children. Stephanie Decker, a 37-year-old Indiana mother, demonstrated this in a heroic way.
On March 2, as a tornado crushed her family home, Stephanie covered her children with her body to protect them. Debris from the tornado caused her to lose part of both legs while saving her children from the deadly 175 mph tornado.
Enduring maternal bond
Someone wrote that a mother carries her child in her womb for nine months and in her heart for the rest of her life. Conceiving, carrying, and giving birth to a human being is as close as any person can come to the act of creation. After birth, motherhood continues through nurturing, sacrificing, loving, and ultimately letting go.
Growing closer to the Mother of God during May
Our Lady is for us the ultimate example of somebody adhering herself fully to God’s will. She was surely scared and unsure of what might come next, but unknowingly said yes to God’s will, that she would bear His son.
We can use this as a model for our relationship with God, and invoke Mary’s kind whispers in Jesus’ ear to help us through a hard time and grow closer to Jesus.
Devotion through the Rosary
Obviously, a powerful devotion to Our Lady, the Rosary is a great way to strengthen your relationship with God’s mother. While many people my own age think of the Rosary as a chore to pray with family or a boring task, sometimes its true potential is never quite realized.
