Nothing new under the sun

kevin-editorial

Full disclosure: My writing this week is really just an excuse to use the photo on the right somewhere in the paper.

That picture is what could be seen in the sky around 7 a.m. on Monday, March 15.

In the preceding 24 hours or so, prior to me snapping it, I had been grumbling and complaining that “daylight savings” did its thing and I lost an hour between Saturday and Sunday.

An exciting start to the new year for St. Ambrose Academy

MADISON — The trials and challenges of a pandemic can’t stop the growth and joy of Catholic community, and spring 2021 is shaping up to be a season of exciting happenings at St. Ambrose Academy (SAA).

New home in the making

After dozens of property searches by a team of professionals and numerous conversations with potential partners, the Academy first shared in December 2020 at the interactive, virtual See the Joy Benefit Dinner news of great joy: A site for a permanent school home is being finalized.

The centrally located Fitchburg development will be an ideal home for the first Catholic school building project in the diocese in over 50 years.

Searching for, finding God all around us

We have been watching old family videos lately from when our children were very young.

“I’m so grateful we have these videos,” I told my husband, “because there is so much I don’t remember from those chaotic years.”

Mission to evangelize world is more urgent

Note: Bishop Donald J. Hying is serializing his Pastoral Letter on the new Evangelization Initiative being launched in the Diocese of Madison. This is the first part of that letter.

Jesus Christ died for you. For you, the person receiving these words, God — the Eternal Creator — became a human being, entered into the messiness of humanity, lived, worked, loved, and prayed with those around him, and at the end of a young life, was unjustly condemned, cruelly tortured, and died as a criminal on a cross.

He did it for you.

Stop, even just for a second, and actually consider that.

You’ve likely heard it before — maybe even a hundred or a thousand times — but reconsider it; try to internalize it anew.

What does ‘normal’ mean now?

‘[Assistant] Editor’s View’
Kevin Wondrash

First off, I want to thank Catholic Herald Editor Mary C. Uhler for letting me borrow the Editorial page this week.

As many of you saw in last week’s edition, Mary was taken to the hospital after a serious medical episode.

You dear readers will be happy to know that she’s currently at home, resting and recovering.

I’m sure she’ll tell you more about what happened and what she went through in a future issue.

Know that she has greatly appreciated all of your prayers and thoughts.

Here, at our offices, the situation with Mary was just one of many things we have had to deal with over the last few weeks.
