Pray the Liturgy of the Hours

The Liturgy of the Hours is the official prayer of the Church and serves as an enriching compliment to the daily Mass.

A compilation of psalms, Scripture, prayers, and writings of the saints, the Hours are divided into seven daily prayer times with morning and evening prayer as the pillars.

Priests, deacons, most Religious, and many lay faithful pray it on a daily basis and find its rhythm and cycle to be rich spiritual fruit.

Having prayed it myself for almost 40 years, the psalms and readings have become comforting and holy companions on my path to God.

MADISON — Amy Yanzer has been enjoying her work as associate director of the Office of Worship in the Diocese of Madison.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” she said in an interview. “The working environment is positive, and the people are gracious.

New series: Celebrating the Liturgical Year at home

MADISON — Have you ever wished that your Catholic faith could be more connected to your daily life?

The Office of Worship of the Diocese of Madison is starting a new series of workshops to help people do just that, starting with celebrating Sunday and the liturgical year, on Wednesday, March 18 (7 to 8:15 p.m.) at Holy Name Heights, 702 S. High Point Rd. in Madison.

The liturgical year is one of the great gifts of the Catholic Church. Throughout the year, we follow Jesus Christ from his birth to his Ascension (and beyond). We even look forward to the day when he will come again at the end of time.

MADISON — The Office of Worship of the Diocese of Madison is continuing a series of popular seminars called This Sacred Council: An In-Depth Study of the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy.

All sessions are led by renowned liturgical scholar Abbot Marcel Rooney, OSB. His informative and enjoyable presentations make these sessions appropriate for anyone who participates in the Church’s liturgies.

Information about Catholic funerals

MADISON — The Diocese of Madison’s Office of Worship is hosting a workshop about Catholic funerals on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Holy Name Heights, 702 S. High Point Rd.

Patrick Gorman, director of the Office of Worship, will lead this session. November is the month in which we offer fervent prayers for the dead. It is also a time to consider our own mortality.

MADISON — Some new developments within the Office of Safe Environment in the Diocese of Madison have been announced.

Cheryl Splinter Bartoszek will be transitioning to a more focused role as the Victim Assistance Coordinator.

“This will allow us to provide better care and support for victims in a timely manner when they reach out to our offices in need,” she said.
