After-school Code Club offers springboard to the future for Beloit students

BELOIT — It’s music to Adam Gracyalny’s ears even though songbooks and choral singing are replaced by Chromebooks and lively conversation in the music room at Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Grade School.

Gracyalny, who is the OLA music teacher, changes hats to conduct Code Club meetings. About 40 students in kindergarten through eighth grade are learning how to write code, how to create simple objects with 3D printing, and how basic concepts can empower them to do many things with a computer.

Spring Fling fundraiser benefits Beloit school

BELOIT — Among one-of-a-kind items to be separately auctioned at the OLA Spring Fling, a main fundraiser for Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Grade School, are two wooden benches festooned with handprints of 3-4K students and a Bible verse.

Each school classroom chose an original project to contribute to the auction.

The event takes place this coming Saturday, April 29, at La Casa Grande Restaurant in Beloit. Cocktails are served at 5 p.m. followed by dinner, entertainment, silent auction, and a live auction, which includes a signed Green Bay Packers football.

Cross Plains parish hosts evening of celebration of Our Lady’s apparitions at Fatima

CROSS PLAINS — On Saturday, May 6, from 7 to 9 p.m., St. Francis Xavier Parish is hosting an evening of celebration for the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions at Fatima to three peasant children.

Guest speaker Juan Landa from Mater Dei Tours will share his insights on Our Lady’s important message and how it applies to the Church and our lives today.

Students learn about nature with worm bin

BELOIT — Apple cores and banana peels had a special use following a recent snack time for Our Lady of the Assumption School (OLA) first graders.

Students recycled the organic materials by putting them into a worm bin. It was part of the first grade curriculum unit about soil, recycling, and composting.

OLA first grade teacher Cynthia Welte said, “I really enjoy environmental science so I felt this project would be perfect.”

Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima to visit Durward’s Glen Retreat Center

BARABOO — In cooperation with “America Needs Fatima,” a Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will visit Durward’s Glen Retreat Center on Tuesday, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

A team of custodians travels all over the country with a 48-inch replica of the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima.

The original Pilgrim Virgin statue was made in 1947 under the direction of Sr. Lucia dos Santos, the oldest of the seers to whom Our Lady appeared.
