Grants offer food pantry workers shelter

MADISON — The generosity of the Madison Community Foundation (MCF) and other major donors means that staff and volunteers at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Madison are finding shelter from the worst of what Wisconsin winter doles out, even as they continue to serve drive-through clients outdoors.

Helpful support

In November, the Madison Community Foundation awarded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul a $12,500 grant to support winter outdoor food distribution in order to meet pandemic safety requirements.

To protect all involved in distributing much-needed food, the St. Vincent de Paul Pantry has been operating on a drive-through basis since March 16.

“Madison Community Foundation is proud to support the critical work of St. Vincent de Paul and other major food pantries during this pandemic, explained Tom Linfield, Madison Community Foundation vice president.

Catholic Charities opens food pantry in Cassville

CASSVILLE — Catholic Charities-Madison announces the opening of Six Rivers Food Pantry on Wednesday, April 17, located at 222 W. Amelia St. in Cassville, serving both Cassville and the surrounding area.

Food will be available for those in need on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Guests will complete a brief application and self-determine their eligibility. All are welcome.

The pantry is needed in the community due to several businesses that have closed leading to unemployment and the lack of other pantries in the Cassville area. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the Cassville community on this project. Helping people in need in rural communities is a fit with our mission,” said Jackson Fonder, president and CEO of Catholic Charities.

Food pantry gardens seek leaders to sustain mission

Third and last in a series on the Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens.

MADISON — The Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens (MAFPG) has a pressing need for two garden leaders, and replacing them poses a major challenge for the nonprofit organization in growing fresh produce for the poor.

Tom Parslow and Phil Cox are seeking new recruits to run the gardens they manage. Both worked as volunteers alongside Emmett Schulte, who founded the food pantry gardens with Ken Witte in 2000. In time, Schulte asked them to become garden leaders.
