Remembering the dead and their families

Nothing is stopping death. It’s happening every day. People that once were are no longer, and those around them have no choice but to carry on.

Make a list, check it twice

kevin-editorial

We love to make lists. Be they shopping lists, Christmas wish lists, bucket lists, or future vacation lists, we are always making lists.

They help to illustrate and organize thoughts and plans in our minds. They also aid us as reminders. We are less likely to forget something if it’s “on the list”.

‘I’ll pray for you’

A lot of people we know are going through challenges. You know what they are; I’ll spare you a hypothetical list.

Making Mary a bigger part of our lives

In this month of October, we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of the Rosary; we celebrated this feast on October 7.

All of the saints and indeed the Church herself encourage us to pray the Rosary on a daily basis.

We find in this simple and repetitive prayer a profound meditation on the Gospel, as we ponder the mystery of the Incarnation in the Joyful Mysteries, the revealed grace of the Lord’s ministry in the Luminous Mysteries, the overwhelming suffering of Christ’s Passion in the Sorrowful Mysteries, and the triumph of the Resurrection in the Glorious Mysteries.

Pray the Liturgy of the Hours

Hying Logo

The Liturgy of the Hours is the official prayer of the Church and serves as an enriching compliment to the daily Mass.

A compilation of psalms, Scripture, prayers, and writings of the saints, the Hours are divided into seven daily prayer times with morning and evening prayer as the pillars.

Priests, deacons, most Religious, and many lay faithful pray it on a daily basis and find its rhythm and cycle to be rich spiritual fruit.

Having prayed it myself for almost 40 years, the psalms and readings have become comforting and holy companions on my path to God.

Women pray for priests in Seven Sisters Apostolate

It’s simple: seven women each pray a Eucharistic Holy Hour one day a week for one priest.

I became the “anchoress” of a Seven Sisters Apostolate group last September.

Heeding God’s call in a time of darkness

Everyday Faith column by Julianne Nornberg

One winter four years ago, I hit bottom. I was a mother of four little ones close in age, and years of exhaustion and isolation were beating me.

With the constant care of my children controlling all of my thoughts and actions, I was becoming a shell, a shadow of my former self, and I needed help.

How marvelous is the miracle of life

I experienced a miracle! A few days ago, I held in my arms my first grandbaby — newly born Faith Annmarie.

Thank God she’s healthy and perfectly formed. And as I was looking at her, I reflected how wonderfully she is made: arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, toes, eyes, mouth, nose, ears, as well as what I couldn’t see but was just as real — hundreds of different tissues, dozens of organs including the remarkable brain, and trillions of cells.

And then I reflected on her divinely infused eternal soul.
