What about mourning lives lost by abortion?

News media reported that world leaders — including Muslim and Jewish statesmen — linked arms on January 11 to lead more than a million French citizens through Paris in an unprecedented march to pay tribute to victims of Islamist militant attacks.

Commentators said the last time crowds of this size filled the streets of the capital was at the liberation of Paris from Nazi Germany in 1944.

While we mourn the tragic deaths  in Paris — including the journalists and police who were killed there — I also find it ironic that over one billion unborn children have been killed in the world since 1980 and over 57 million unborn children have died in the United States by abortion since 1973.

Do we have a tremendous outcry about these lives lost? Do we mourn the deaths of these unborn babies?

Personhood campaign seeks to extend protection to preborn children

To the editor:

Personhood is the fundamental civil rights issue of our time. The pro-life movement is founded on the bedrock principle that all human beings, at all stages of development, deserve full protection under the law.

Our nation’s history of civil rights progress has been fueled by this principle. But one injustice remains: the legal discrimination against pre-born babies, who can be freely mutilated and killed throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

The Wisconsin Personhood campaign seeks to pass an amendment to the state constitution legally recognizing that all preborn human beings are “persons” whose unalienable right to life is protected by the state.

Democratic Party sold out to support abortion rights

To the editor:

I have heard many justifications for voting for President Obama by Catholics. One person said they were voting for the one who would continue to give her freedom of choice and freedom to live as she chooses, the one who would secure her rights.

One Catholic leader made the argument that there may be less abortions if Obama were in office because with more funding for welfare some of the fiscally poor unwed mothers may be more apt to keep their baby rather than “murder it” (my words).

“Abortion is murder, no less than if you murder a human outside the womb!” These words still resonate in my head as though I heard Fr. Ray Meier say them yesterday in his sermons at St. Patrick Parish, Madison, in the 1990s.

Pro-life message is about conversion of hearts

To the editor:

Thank you for the front page article on Pope Benedict’s Lenten message about conversion (Catholic Herald, February 11 issue). This ties in exactly with Chris Slattery’s message at the February 6, 2010, pro-life rally at the UW Library Mall. Chris said the pro-life message is about conversion.

So, put them together and you get this: Our Lenten journey is converting hearts to receive, and pass on, God’s love. We want UW’s abortionist, Dr. Caryn Dutton, and all of Madison’s OB-GYN doctors who commit abortions, to have a conversion of heart to receive, and pass on, God’s love.
