National Day of Remembrance

Guest Column

The National Day of Remembrance (AbortionMemorials.com) is an effort of prayer and education focused on the approximately 35 locations throughout the United States in which the bodies of children killed by abortion are buried.

By telling the stories of these burials and having memorial services at each of these sites, the public is brought to a deeper awareness of the humanity of the unborn and the inhumanity of abortion. Moreover, this occasion can lead those who have lost children to abortion to a greater measure of healing.

This initiative is sponsored by three national pro-life groups: Priests for Life, Pro-life Action League, and Citizens for a Pro-life Society.

Continue to pray for legal protection of unborn children

To the editor:

Please accept my thanks for the Catholic Herald coverage of the Capitol Rosary Rally marking the 40th sorrowful anniversary of Roe v. Wade on January 12, 2013.

We estimate almost 150 people praying at the Capitol and St. Patrick’s and with us on their own that day.

As the speakers stated, this is a spiritual battle.

United for religious freedom: Let’s join our bishops in standing up and praying for religious liberty

Editor's View by Mary C. Uhler

The Catholic bishops of the United States have called on all Catholics to unite in opposition to various threats to religious freedom in our country.

At a meeting of the bishops’ leaders in Washington, D.C., the bishops issued a statement on March 14 called “United for Religious Freedom.” The bishops said they are concerned not only with protecting the Church’s own institutions, but also with the care of individuals and the common good.

Sidewalk counselors save lives: Retired firefighter keeps up efforts despite health

Editor's View by Mary C. Uhler

We all know that firefighters save lives by battling fires in our homes, offices, schools, and even our churches.

There is one retired firefighter in Wisconsin, however,  who is saving lives on the streets. He is not putting out fires. Instead, he is a sidewalk counselor in Milwaukee, saving lives outside of an abortion clinic.

PLW concurs with cardinal on ‘contraceptive mentality’

To the editor:

Thank you to Mary Uhler and the Catholic Herald for your report on Cardinal Raymond Burke’s recent compelling address on the need to counter the “contraceptive mentality” and “advance the culture of life” with “new enthusiasm and new energy.”

As Pro-Wisconsin (PLW) embarks on our 20th year in 2012, we realistically concur with His Eminence Cardinal Burke, in recognition that “the struggle is fierce and the contrary forces are many and clever.”

Abstinence education: Why it’s more important than ever

Editor's View by Mary C. Uhler

In Wisconsin, we’ve been hearing a lot in the media these days about sex education. Our state Legislature is debating a bill which would overturn a law passed two years ago called the Healthy Youth Act.

That law required public schools that offer sex education to teach about proper use of contraceptives, among other things. The proposed new law, called the “Strong Communities . . . Healthy Kids Act,” would emphasize abstinence as the only reliable way to prevent pregnancy and disease.

Film showing on Oct. 23 in Boscobel provides ‘inside look’ at abortion providers

To the editor:

One million dollars a day in taxpayer funding! This is the amount that Planned Parenthood receives from the federal coffers. One million dollars a day! The net worth of this “non-profit” organization is reported to be $9.8 million; its CEO’s salary: $248,819!

It is Wisconsin’s largest abortion chain . . . and it is now under federal investigation. Thanks to a recently released 30-page analysis exposing Planned Parenthood’s misuse of federal funds, failure to report child sex abuse, willful disregard for state laws regulating abortion, and a number of other scandalous activities, the House Committee on Oversight and Investigation is calling for an accounting.

On medical decision-making

Each fall, as we observe October, Respect Life Month, we are reminded of our obligation to combat the relentless attacks on all innocent human life.

Guest Column logo

Our experience throughout this past spring and summer indicates that in addition to the tragic killing of our preborn brothers and sisters, assaults on vulnerable elderly, sick, and disabled people are definitely on the rise, especially here in Wisconsin.

Providing advice, advocacy

Pro-Life Wisconsin is being enlisted to provide more and more materials, speakers, advice, and direct advocacy regarding end-of-life and medical decisions.
