Planning for ‘40 Days’ in Madison

MADISON — The volunteer meeting for Madison’s 40 Days for Life vigil was highlighted with the news of an abortion clinic ceasing operations in Green Bay. That development is serving as motivation to help the same thing happen here.

The next 40 Days for Life is scheduled to take place Wednesday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 3. The effort calls for people to come out and pray near abortion clinics to help end abortion.

Volunteers keep costs low, free clinic running smoothly

MADISON — In June, Our Lady of Hope Clinic celebrated its fourth anniversary of providing free medical care to Dane County’s uninsured men, women, and children.

The clinic, which first opened its doors to uninsured patients on June 1, 2009, is the area’s only completely free full-time primary care clinic for people without health insurance.

Volunteers from parishes joining together in Feed My Sheep effort

MADISON — In 2012 several parishes banded together with the Catholic Multicultural Center, Kids Against Hunger, as well as the organization 6:8 Making Service Personal and made a plan.

The plan, called Feed My Sheep, was to invite people from local Catholic parishes to donate toward building 25,000 meals for people in need in the Madison area and throughout the world. Each meal only cost a quarter, yet 25,000 meals sounded like a lot of quarters . . . and it was.

Fortunately, that has not been happening during our current economic crisis, reported a recent poll taken for PARADE magazine. Instead, this poll shows that there’s a “compassion boom” with more and more people helping others.
