Sr. Lynn Welsh OP dies

SINSINAWA — Sr. Lynn Welsh, OP, died July 18, 2017, in Fort Myers, Fla. Her religious name was Sister Tomaso. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, July 31, 2017, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery. A memorial Mass was held at St. Cecilia Catholic Community, Fort Myers, July 25.

Sister Lynn made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1955, and her final profession August 5, 1958. She taught for 15 years and served as principal for 22 years. Sister Lynn ministered as a religious education coordinator for two years and director for one year, in family care for one year, and with a reading program for five years. She served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as provincial councilor for the Eastern Province for four years and as a member of the Development Office staff for one year, and did parish and community volunteer work for nine years. She served in Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Wisconsin, Idaho, Michigan and Florida.

In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Lynn served as principal at St. Patrick, Madison, 1971-1973.

Sister Lynn was born January. 5, 1936, in Chicago, the daughter of Thomas J. Welsh II and Marion (Donnelly) Welsh. Her parents and a sister, Mary Alice Kennedy, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Terrien and Sr. Janet Welsh, OP; a brother, Thomas J. Welsh III; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 61 years of Religious life.
