Stopping FOCA is of utmost importance to our nation

On November 27, 2008October 4, 2023
Barbara L. Lyons, Milwaukee

To the editor:

Grateful thanks to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops who, at their recent meeting, recognized the dangers of the so-called Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and spoke passionately in opposition. Stopping FOCA is of the utmost priority and necessity. Why? Because FOCA places women and unborn babies in peril, silences your voices, and ignores your values.

FOCA is a proposed federal law which would eliminate all of the lifesaving laws passed over the past 35 years in Congress and all 50 states. The result of FOCA would be:

  • You as a taxpayer forced to pay for abortions
  • Partial-birth abortion legal again
  • Secret abortions for our minor daughters with no parental involvement
  • No required information with waiting periods for women seeking abortions
  • Medical professionals and facilities (including Catholic ones) forced to perform abortions
  • Dramatic increase in the number of abortions
  • No ability to enact future protective laws

Candidate Barack Obama promised Planned Parenthood that his first act as president would be to sign FOCA. Because the bill must go through the Congress first, it is imperative that every person dedicated to the sanctity of human life contact their congressional representative.

Wisconsin Right to Life has initiated an aggressive, massive campaign to Stop FOCA. To help you to easily become involved, please visit www.StopFOCAWI.com
