To the editor:
It is all right for President Obama to come to Notre Dame, but don’t give him an honorary doctorate of law, because this doctorate coming from a Catholic university should be given to someone who respects and upholds the laws of God, such as “Thou shall not kill.”
The university will lose its creditability by awarding the doctorate to someone who is on the opposite side of Catholic beliefs.
Our country has lost values and morals, which has led to our country’s decay; a Catholic university should be a leader in putting our nation back on track.
With the president coming to Notre Dame, it is a golden opportunity for a Catholic community to display what makes Catholics different from the rest. The prayer part of the graduation ceremony can include prayers to end abortion, for conversion of those who allow abortions, and for God to forgive them.
Jesus tells us to hate the sin, but love the sinner.
Catholics must take a stand against the wrongs of the nation, speak up, and make a difference.
If the leaders at Notre Dame University have strong and fundamental beliefs in the teachings of Jesus Christ, they can make good use of his visit. If they don’t, we will have to forgive them, but will God, the final Judge, forgive them?
Pray for all of our leaders so they follow the Laws of God.
