Candidate’s record shows extreme views on abortion

On August 12, 2010
Phil Bartel

To the editor:

As someone with a strong respect for the sanctity of human life, I am deeply disturbed by the radically pro-abortion views of gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett.

Barrett’s record clearly illustrates his extreme views on abortion. He has supported taxpayer funding of abortion and opposed parental notification laws.

Even worse, he opposed a ban on late-term abortions. Even the liberal, pro-choice Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan referred to this barbaric practice as “just too close to infanticide.”

Barrett’s recent attendance at two fundraisers hosted by the pro-abortion group Planned Parenthood shows that he would continue to hold little respect for the lives of the unborn as governor.

Fortunately, Wisconsin has another choice. Scott Walker is a strongly pro-life candidate who has pledged to protect human life at all stages. Already endorsed by Wisconsin Right to Life as well as Pro- Life Wisconsin, Catholics can count on Scott to uphold their pro-life views as governor. We must all work together to elect Scott Walker to ensure that Tom Barrett never gets the opportunity to advance his extreme pro-abortion platform.

Phil Bartel, student at UW-Madison
