Degrading of white male on TV is wrong

On June 9, 2011
Martha Bausch

To Mark Patterson:

Thank you for publishing portions of my letter stating my opinion on TV programs and commercials. I feel that you either missed my point or don’t care about the white male anymore.

Would it be acceptable to ridicule a man if he was of a different color, nationality, religious preference, or different life style preference just to make a character in a TV sitcom or commercial? Just try making fun of a black man or a homosexual guy and lawsuits would be flying.

Just because “these kinds of characterizations have been a TV staple probably before Harry Belafonte sang Man Smart, Woman Smarter more that 50 years ago” doesn’t make it right. With attitudes like this it is no wonder that so many of the American children are becoming bullies.

The public needs to stand up to the writers and producers in the broadcast media and demand that the degrading of the white male stops.

Martha Bausch, Lancaster
