Primaries usually reserved for members of parties

On September 18, 2014March 2, 2023
John "Doc" Casey

To the editor:

I object to the attitudes in your editorial of September 4. This was a primary election. That is, it was for the members of each party to decide who would represent their party in the general election in November.

As I do not belong to either party, it would be inappropriate for me to cast a ballot for either party. When there are other items on the ballot (e.g., school referendum), I vote in the primary elections.

But, I only vote for those items. I still do not vote for either party’s candidates.

I almost always vote in general elections. But, primaries are and should be reserved for the members of the party to pick their representatives. Anyone who is not a party member should not cast a ballot for the party’s candidates.

John “Doc” Casey, McFarland
