What will you do for preborn babies?

On January 14, 2015
Sr. Rosalia Bauer, FSPA

To the editor:

Describe, if you can, how you would feel holding a baby that was scheduled to be deliberately killed?

I’ve been blessed to have held many babies: ill, injured, battered, healthy, and the homeless. But beyond description is holding a baby who was scheduled to be killed via abortion or seeing their photo.

In 1995, working for Pro-Life Wisconsin, I answered the telephone.  A woman, distress in her voice, said she was leaving her home to have an abortion.

On the kitchen table, she saw a newspaper with an entire page of a baby all torn apart. I listened, counseled her on her options for life, and referred her to a pro-life doctor. In September 1996, this mom sent a letter, which radiated joy, along with a photo of their son.

In 2012 another baby was scheduled to be killed. Prayers, protest at the Rockford, Ill., abortion mill, counseling . . . and the mother chose life! Holding him as a baby, I felt a bit of heaven.

The late Congressman Henry Hyde said, “When the time comes, as it surely will, when we face that final judgment, I think there will be a chorus of voices that will plead for everyone who has been in the pro-life movement. They will say to God, ‘Spare him because he loved us.’ And God will look at you and say not, ‘Did you succeed?’ but ‘Did you try?’”

January 22, 2015, marks the 42nd anniversary of legalized abortion. What will you do for our preborn sisters and brothers?

Sr. Rosalia Bauer, FSPA, RN, LaCrosse
