We need God back in our lives, not gun laws

On July 28, 2016
Ryan Lipska

To the editor:

It seems whenever there is a shooting, there is a clamor for more gun control, as in a recent editorial, “Work for sensible gun control.”

They say guns are killing people. I have yet seen or heard of a gun discharging itself into a person, much less loading itself. People kill people, and yes, some use guns. But guns get blamed and not the people using them. Why?

Accountability, for there is none in our American society any more. Our civil laws are ineffective, no death penalty for a deterrent, and internments for murder are pleaded to manslaughter, insanity, or other excuses with little time being served.

We never ask, “Do these killers believe in God? And if so, what God do they believe in? Was there a father in their life? If so, was he a moral man and God-fearing? Were they ever taught right from wrong?”

We have thrown God out of our schools and government. The problem in our society is not guns but a lack of “fear of God.” We need God back in our permissive society, not more gun laws.

Ryan Lipska, Dodgeville
