Grand opening for Holy Name Heights/Bishop O’Connor Catholic Center

“We have much to celebrate today,” said Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison. “We’re just beginning.”

He spoke those words at the start of a Votive Mass of the Most Holy Name of Jesus on August 18 — the day of the grand opening of the Holy Name Heights/Bishop O’Connor Catholic Center in Madison.

Running for their lives

Imagine, right now at this very moment you and your loved ones need to run for your lives!

With hardly more than the clothes on your backs, you and your family must flee from an invading armed force.

Or imagine your quick exodus is due to the fact that gang members have threatened to kill your family because your teenage son or grandson has refused to join their murderous drug gang.

Talking to kids about pornography and human sexuality

A growing concern today involves the role of pornography as the next generation’s instructor in human sexuality.

For many young people, pornography has become the only guide to sexuality they have ever known. For Catholic parents, this raises the critical challenge of how best to approach these matters with their children, given that kids as young as eight or nine may already be acquiring information and viewpoints about human sexual behaviors from internet pornography.

World Youth Day 2016: Source of hope

When I arrived in Kraków for the 2016 World Youth Day, I was pretty exhausted, having left Los Angeles some 15 hours earlier and having had to change planes in Munich.

But I was enthused as I approached my first appointment right in the heart of the Old City. Through the good ministrations of George Weigel, the world’s leading expert on John Paul II, I was one of a group of bishops and priests invited to spend time with the original youth group of Fr. Karol Wojtyła.

A beloved building is reborn!

In 1995, many of us in the Diocese of Madison were very sad when Holy Name Seminary closed its doors.

The seminary had been a focal point for the diocese, with the building housing seminarians and many diocesan events. It was even the site of a pre-season training camp for the University of Wisconsin Badger football team for many years.

The seminary’s spire towered over the west side of Madison, a sign of the Church for all to see and hear as the seminary’s bells pealed every 15 minutes.

MADISON — The 40 Days for Life campaign, a peaceful, non-denominational initiative that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigils at abortion facilities, and grassroots educational outreach, kicks off on September 28.

“We know 40 Days for Life has made a difference in Madison. Our volunteers have made extraordinary sacrifices to expose the abortion industry and to protect children and their mothers from abortion,” said Gwen Finnegan, who is coordinating the local campaign this year.
