40 Days for Life seeks volunteers

On August 28, 2014April 26, 2023
--

MADISON — The 2014 40 Days for Life Madison campaign will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families.

Three-point program

It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of his plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program:

• Prayer and fasting

• Constant vigil

• Community outreach

The 40-day campaign tracks biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities, and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of his people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge.

Leadership opportunities

There are still some leadership opportunities available with Madison’s 40 Days for Life campaign to help you accept this 40-day challenge. They are:

1. Volunteer caller — Personally invite past participants to join this year’s 40 Days for Life.

2. Vigil captain — Watch the vigil calendar throughout the week leading up to your chosen one day of the week to ensure that each hour is covered.

3. Outreach — Personally invite other churches and organizations that are not currently participating in 40 Days for Life.

4. Emergency prayer warrior — Give availability to cover hours either during the day or night to be called upon after all other coverage options have been exhausted.

5. Parish liaison — Sign your parish up to take part in the campaign.

This year’s campaign will be similar to last year’s with the Sleep No More campaign as a part of it. Sleep No More calls on men to step up and be the protectors of the family that they are called to be and to fill the nighttime hours (6 p.m. to 8 a.m.) of the vigil.

40 Days for Life, Madison will begin its 24/7 vigil coverage at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The campaign will run through 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Local 40 Days for Life campaign leader, Gwen Finnegan, hopes to fill the 24/7 vigil calendar before the fall campaign begins.

To accept and meet the 40-day challenge by signing up for the above volunteer opportunities in support of this fall’s 40 Days for Life campaign or by signing up for vigil hours, call Gwen Finnegan at 608-393-8545 or email her at [email protected]
