We are becoming ‘slaves’ of ‘Big Government’

On December 25, 2013
Vince Metcalf, Montello

To the editor:

Do you think our forefathers, who so carefully crafted our Constitution and Bill of Rights to protect our God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are happy or horrified at the turn their beloved nation has taken in these past 50 years? Their 13 colonies became One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Three branches of government were created: Legislative [elected] by citizens to past just laws, Judicial [appointed] to interpret laws, and Administrative [also elected] to enforce the laws.

But in January of 1973, the Supreme Court [appointed] made the decision that denied the right to life to babies in their mother’s womb. Since then, 55 million babies have been sacrificed to the gods of pleasure and convenience.

Then in 2010, a 2,300-page so-called “Obama Health Care” law was written by bureaucrats and passed by legislators who admitted they had not even read it. After passage they discovered their new law contained mandates that would cause millions of existing health policies to be canceled by January 1, 2014.

The law also denies the freedom to practice our religion as we choose, and also classifies pregnancy as a disease like cancer or pneumonia, so that innocent babies will be treated as a virus to be eliminated by “health” insurance!

Legislators quickly exempt themselves from their new law but are forcing us to comply or pay the fines. Their action speaks volumes about their integrity!

After 200 years of living with the precious freedoms endowed in us by our Creator and preserved by the blood of thousands and thousands of American veterans, are we now becoming the slaves of “Big Government”? Remember the Hebrew slaves and how they prayed and pleaded with God for their freedom. Clogged chariot wheels and mighty sea waters destroyed Pharaoh’s whole army!

There were about six million slaves in Egypt. We have almost that many who have already lost their health care by cancellation — millions more will be canceled in 2014.

Millions more are losing rights to their religious beliefs and think of the millions of innocent babies lives that will be lost to abortion, that even pro-lifers will be forced to help pay for!

We don’t know just how our prayers might be answered. It seems like “Big Government” has already encountered a second Tower of Babel in the clogged, tangled wires of a malfunctioning website! No telling what might be next!

Oh what tangled webs we weave when first we ponder to deceive. Could “Big Government” be struggling with the first phases of its Waterloo?

Keep praying,

Vince Metcalf, Montello
