MADISON — From April 24 to April 28, Blessed Sacrament School in Madison celebrated the Week of the Young Child.

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers and families.

Some of the activities included: a variety show with kid-friendly entertainer Ken Lonnquist, a field trip to the Humane Society, and an animal dress-up day.

Volunteers from the Henry Vilas Zoo also visited the school to give the younger students a chance to learn about reptiles and amphibians.

They brought in snakes, a cane toad, a salamander, and a blue-tongued skink.

The students had a chance to get close to the animals and ask questions to the volunteers to better get to know their new scaly friends from the zoo.

The zoo volunteers were impressed with how much the students already knew about the animals.
