Presentation examines mystical phenomena
Science Tests Faith is a presentation which includes videos of the testimony and reports of three professionals — an attorney, a scientist, and a journalist — who have examined certain mystical phenomena that have occurred in the Catholic Church in modern times.
Their work, Signs from God, Science Tests Faith, investigates Eucharistic miracles, the phenomenon of a statue of Jesus that weeps tears and blood, the stigmata in a current day mystic, and more.
Gimme Shelter is moving, realistic film
NEW YORK (CNS) — Perhaps the best moment in the fact-based drama Gimme Shelter (Roadside) comes when its beleaguered, deeply sympathetic protagonist, played by Vanessa Hudgens, wonderingly recites a passage from the Book of Psalms that tells of God’s promises to those who trust in him.
It’s a moving scene precisely because such faith-based optimism seems so far removed from all that Hudgens’ character, teenager Agnes “Apple” Bailey, has previously endured.
Workshops for extraordinary ministers of Communion
MADISON — The Diocese of Madison’s Office of Worship will hold Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Workshops at two locations in the coming weeks.
- At Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 2222 Shopiere Rd., Beloit, on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
- At St. Joseph Church, 405 S. Dacotah St., Dodgeville, on Saturday, March 1, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Day of prayer and formation in Watertown
WATERTOWN — St. Henry Parish, 300 E. Cady St., Watertown, is hosting a day of prayer and formation for all lectors, musicians, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, catechists, greeters, altar servers, ushers, and art and environment committees on Saturday, March 1, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Abbot Marcel Rooney, OSB, will be the keynote speaker. Abbot Rooney is a dynamic speaker who has consulted on the liturgy with Blessed John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Evening of reflection for extraordinary ministers
MADISON — Join Abbot Marcel Rooney, OSB, and other Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) on Wednesday, March 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. for a mini-Lenten retreat at St. Maria Goretti Church, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison.
This evening is intended as an enrichment opportunity for veteran eucharistic ministers and does not fulfill the requirement of training at one of the regularly-scheduled workshops for EMHC.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Despite a significant snow storm and particularly frigid weather, the 2014 March for Life in Washington, D.C., rallied-on with undaunted participation and unquenchable energy.
The march remains the largest annual demonstration in the world regularly garnering hundreds of thousands of participants.
The dignity of human life
This persistent high representation indicates a cause which is deeper in significance than congressional budgetary items or tax policy.
Indeed, it touches upon the very foundation of civilized society, the inviolable dignity of the human person.
It affirms the fundamental truth that human rights precede the state, and — as acknowledged by the Declaration of Independence — the fundamental purpose of government is to affirm and protect these rights.
Blessed Pope John XXIII rightly taught that when these fundamental rights are not recognized and protected by government, it calls the very legitimacy of such governments into question.
Witness of Faith: George Gibert
