United States has right to sovereign borders

To the editor:

I’m writing in regard to the pope’s chastisement of the United States on our immigration issues.

The American people took in 1.7 million legal immigrants in 2015. The Vatican is a sovereign nation with recognized borders; I would like to see them take in even 100th of one percent of that many people per year.

Prefers use of Novus Ordo Mass

To the editor:

Fr. John Zuhlsdorf’s recent columns on the Pontifical Mass create a very nervous Catholic here. It feels as though these columns are opening shots on banning the Novus Ordo Mass celebrations here in the Diocese of Madison. Or imposing the use of Latin.

I much prefer the Roman Rite Novus Ordo to the other. I do not hope in the least for any return to the other form. I recall the Mass before Vatican II and not with any joy. Mass then was cold and isolated people.

Please keep the print edition of paper

To the editor:

I read with interest your Editor’s View column for the week of February 4.

I know printed articles are expensive to do. However, I really sincerely hope that you do not do everything online in the future.

I like the newspaper version and read it every week.

Taxpayer action needed on body parts bill

To the editor:

Wisconsin’s pro-life advocates need to be contacting their legislators in the immediate future as the 2016 Legislative Floor Session will end the last part of February according to news reports.

Since September, Assembly Bill 305 — the Baby Body Parts Bill — has been languishing in the Assembly Rules Committee chaired by Representative Jim Steineke.

More people should sign petition to abolish mandate

To the editor:

Thank you God that we still have people here on earth who have a conscience and won’t sign this form (reference to Little Sisters of the Poor article on their refusal to sign the Health and Human Services’ Contraception Mandate, February 4 Catholic Herald).

Why have Catholics not signed a petition to abolish this mandate? Why is this the first I have heard of this? Why is it kept from us to see?

God created all of us as his children

To the editor:

In the January 28 issue of the Catholic Herald, a letter from Paul Richgels accuses Pope Francis of falsely interpreting Scripture when our successor of Peter said all people are children of the same God.

Ex 1:27 says, “God created man in his image, in the divine image he created him, male and female he created him.”

There are not two kinds of people: those created by God and those who are not. God created all of us as his children and loved us so much that he gave us the free will to choose to reciprocate his love!

Thanks for blankets

To the editor:

Home Health United (HHU)-Janesville would like to thank everyone who went above and beyond in answering our call for help for donations of lap blankets for our hospice patients.

As of now, Janesville and its surrounding communities have donated more than 100 lap blankets for our hospice patients. We have received so many blankets the office is overflowing!

All people are children of the same God?

To the editor:

In the January 21 issue of the Catholic Herald is an article about Pope Francis’ visit to a synagogue where he made the statement that all people are children of the same God.

Really??? That is not the teaching of the Scripture. 1 Peter 1:23-25 tells us that we become the children of God through receiving the gospel; Jesus is the Son of God, who came to the earth to die for the forgiveness of sins and will return to gather in those who are His and punish those who are not.

Never felt less than welcome at St. Paul’s

To the editor:

From our first encounters with St. Paul’s University Catholic Center as uncertain students in the early 1980s, through our wedding and children’s baptisms, and many Eucharistic liturgies, we never felt less than welcome in that “dark, narrow, and cramped” physical building.

Knife control vs. gun control legislation

To the editor:

As I watched the president wipe away a tear in announcing his new gun legislation, I wondered, “Is this  the same man who proclaimed, ‘God bless Planned Parenthood’”?

Though President Obama’s compassion for the victims of Sandy Hook is commendable, what a tremendous disconnect to his callous support of an organization that kills, mutilates, and profits from the dirty business of abortion.
