Thanks to those who helped save lives

To the editor:

Another year: Yes, some lives were saved, yes because of prayer, and yes because of ultrasounds seen by mothers before they chose abortions.

Thanks to the Knights of Columbus and all people who donate and pray and vote for people who are pro-life, so that our tax money does not pay for abortions and that our tax money does not pay to fund organizations that perform abortions.

What will you do for preborn babies?

To the editor:

Describe, if you can, how you would feel holding a baby that was scheduled to be deliberately killed?

I’ve been blessed to have held many babies: ill, injured, battered, healthy, and the homeless. But beyond description is holding a baby who was scheduled to be killed via abortion or seeing their photo.

Thanks for work of volunteers who erected Nativity display at State Capitol

To the editor:

Thanks to Sr. Therese Wolf, FSPA, who receives the Catholic Herald and shares it with me, I keep abreast of the Madison area events.

I was delighted to read that the Nativity scene is now displayed at our State Capitol! Thank you, Geralyn Ketterman, a staunch pro-lifer with whom I’ve many memories of praying/witnesssing at the “former” Rockford Abortion Mill, distributing literature and many other human life promoting activities.

How a Catholic should live is the key issue

To the editor:

I’d like to add a few observations to Fr. Robert Barron’s column, “It doesn’t matter what you believe . . .” (Catholic Herald, December 4 issue). He reports that “88 percent of those surveyed said ‘how a person lives is more important than whether he or she is a Catholic.’”

However, if the respondents had been asked, “How should a Catholic live?” the answers would not have been cavalier at all.

Document on Religious is ‘sugar-coated’

To the editor:

I praise the document of the Congregation for Religious in Rome, released as a final report of the visitation of women’s religious congregations in the U.S.

I am not known for sugarcoating grave problems within Religious life — but kindness is the only way to go for the Church’s pastors. Some Religious congregations aren’t only on a demographic cliff, but teetering on the edge in terms of ecclesial communion, as the document alludes.

How about a ‘Dairy State March for Life’?

To the editor:

On January 22, 1973, the great scourge of legalized abortion was thrust upon our country with the enactment of Roe v. Wade.

Hundreds of thousands of American Christians from across the country make the annual pilgrimage each January to the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court as a reminder that the killing of innocent children is very wrong and grieves our dear Lord.

Concerns about use of GMO crops

To the editor:

Regarding the article, “Challenges to feeding, thinking about the hungry” (November 20 issue, Catholic Herald),  the topic of world hunger is important and deserves more attention; however, this article implies that GMO (genetically modified organisms) crops may provide healthier food products.

There is no scientific evidence that GMO crops are healthier. The opposite is likely true.

Concerned about talk of decreasing world population

To the editor:

I was more than a bit perplexed by the “Challenges to feeding, thinking about the hungry” article in the November 20 issue of the Catholic Herald. In the last paragraph it is noted that perhaps our world population needs to be moved down to a more sustainable level, from the current seven billion to perhaps three to five billion.

It concludes that no one at the symposium had any suggestions of how to get down to that level. Unfortunately too many people/organizations do have an answer to that question (i.e., Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, UNFPA, Zero Population America, Hemlock Society, etc.) by promoting abortion, birth control, and euthanasia.

Time to de-fund Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin

To the editor:

The Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism recently published an excellent article about the inspector general for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services conducting a much-needed audit of the multi-million dollar family planning industry in our state.

The recent article highlighted that clinics “overbilled Medicaid by $3.5 million.”

Help sponsor Nativity scene at State Capitol

To the editor:

A couple of families from the Diocese of Madison will be sponsoring a life-size Nativity scene at our State Capitol, and we would like to invite others to help us make this display truly inspiring.

For the thousands of folks that will visit the Capitol with their children and grandchildren, the Nativity will remind everyone that Jesus is the reason for this special season.
