Government funding wrong

To the editor:

The U.S.A. is in a state of economic crisis. Now the U.S. federal government through an executive order has expanded that crisis by funding abortion and contraceptives for nations all around the world.

U.S. and allies met Just War requirements in Iraq

To the editor:

Fr. Jim Murphy and subsequent mailbag contributors make a (not so excellent) case against our military intervention in Iraq. They use post-Christian and pacifist assumptions in Just War Tradition to cast doubt and dishonor on our nation, our soldiers’ virtue, and the nature of Christian warfare. There is no embarrassment for our military or our soldiers who defend innocents and nations from militant Islamic aggression.

Thirteen-year-old girl opposes abortion decision

To the editor:

My name is Leah Tews. I am 13 years old and am a pro-life believer in speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves. I am sure you are aware of the decision that was recently made by the joint leaders of Meriter/UW surgical centers to allow second trimester abortions at their facilities. I believe that we, as a Christian community, have the responsibility to act on behalf of Christ, as His voice for His unborn children.

Catholics voted for president who supported abortion

To the editor:

President Obama campaigned on the issue of eliminating all restraints against abortion. Despite many excellent articles in the Catholic Herald and other Catholic publications and the advice by Bishop Robert Morlino, Catholics voted 54 percent nationally for the abortion candidate. The percentage was even greater in Madison.

Those who backed Iraq war now castigating priest

To the editor:

Back in 2003, in the weeks and days leading up to the invasion of Iraq, a small number of us decried the Bush administration’s rush to war. We said that the war was ill-advised, illegal, unwarranted, immoral, and based on lies. We were castigated, vilified, pilloried, and pretty much drowned out on the op-ed pages of the Catholic Herald.

Be informed about facts about abortion, FOCA

To the editor:

I read in Kathleen Parker’s column recently that Michelle Obama, our new First Lady, said: “Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed . . .”

Ask people to make feelings known about lost lives

To the editor:

I commend the organizations sponsoring the “Boycott Hospitals that Allow Abortions” ad in the Wisconsin State Journal. Although I believe limitations exist in a person’s ability to change the provider of their health insurance, the ad brings clear attention to the issue of the unlimited availability of abortions regardless of where the mother is in her pregnancy.

Don’t use tax and tuition money to fund abortions

To my elected state officials:

It appears that the regents of the University of Wisconsin have approved using UW medical facilities to perform second-trimester abortions. That means they are using the tax dollars and tuition moneys of persons very much opposed to such acts of child abuse and murder.

Keep praying and working for the Culture of Life

To the editor:

Thank you to all who organized and backed the Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, pro-life rally on the UW Library Mall. Thanks be to God for the excellent speakers and turnout. Thank you to the UW and Madison Police for stopping traffic as we peacefully processed to 1 S. Park St. to pray.
