Look at method of saints to fund Multicultural Center

To the editor:

It may be time to move past questions about the Catholic Multicultural Center’s closure to ask the more urgent question: how can we finance the CMC now? My modest proposal is to look to the method of the saints: do works of mercy, tell others about it, and pray.

Praise for parish response

To the editor:

I was overjoyed with Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish’s quick response to the closing of the Catholic Multicultural Center. As Catholics, we need to be ever mindful of the poor and the needs of those less fortunate than ourselves. These are difficult times, financially and spiritually, for everyone.

Church is committed to helping the poor

With the recent announcement of the closing of the Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC) in Madison, some people have been quoted in the media as questioning the Catholic Church’s concern for the poor. They are certainly misinformed if they think that the Church does not care for the poor.

Thank you from St. Vincent’s

To the editor:
We at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul appreciate the time and interest of the more than 625 volunteers, members, donors, other supporters, and members of the general public who visited the new Center for Vincentian Charity during our grand-opening and dedication events May 27 to 31. Our new center, at 2033 Fish Hatchery Rd. in the town of Madison, is home to Dane County’s largest and busiest food pantry. We began serving people in need at this location on February 2, but second-phase construction — adjoining warehouse and dock space — was completed just last month.

Obama likely planning pro-abortion health care reform legislation

To the editor:

Democratic congressional leaders are working with the Obama White House behind closed doors to craft federal health care legislation which Obama has pledged will contain expansive pro-abortion provisions. Pro-abortion organizations consider abortion mandates as a part of health care reform to be one of their top priorities.

Summer attire at church

We’re finally enjoying some warmer weather in Wisconsin after a long winter.

As the temperatures rise, naturally people start dressing with lighter clothes. What does that mean for our choice of clothing for church?

Obama should not be invited to speak at a Catholic university

To the editor:

We object to the position taken in the editorial in the May 14 issue of the Catholic Herald regarding Obama and the invitation to speak at Notre Dame University. That a person who supports abortion and sees contraception as prevention to abortion should speak at a Catholic university is wholly unacceptable and in opposition to Catholic teaching.

On abortion issue, Church is right and president is wrong

To the editor:

During President Obama’s commencement address at Notre Dame University, he said he and the Catholic Church were at an impasse. He claims that a woman should have the right to have an innocent and defenseless human being killed — a right no other member of a civilized society has.
