Catholic Herald correspondent John Braunwarth dies

JANESVILLE — John Braunwarth, 82, Janesville, a correspondent for the Catholic Herald for many years, died on Friday, Nov. 11, at his home.

He was born in Prentice, Wis., on July 14, 1929, the son of Dr. Isadore H. and Florence M. (Keenan) Braunwarth. He served in the U.S. Army as a medtech. He was a CEO of Armstrong Company, where he was a research chemist. During his lifetime he developed many patents.

 

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, raising and racing horses, and writing for the Catholic Herald. He was an active member of St. William Parish and a past president and member of the Janesville Serra Club.

 

He is survived by his three siblings: Mary Hathorn, Joan Klipstine, both of Janesville, and Dorothy Freitag of Darien; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings: Sue, Sarah, and Paul Braunwarth.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, Nov. 14, at St. William Church with Fr. John Auby officiating.

Lasting memorials may be made to St. William School Tuition Fund or to HealthNet of Rock County. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
