Benefit to be held for family at Sullivan parish

On February 4, 2015
Kevin Wondrash

SULLIVAN — Kila and Scott Hagie are a young couple who were married at St. Mary Help of Christians Church on May 6, 2006, with Fr. Eric Nielsen officiating.

Their lives forever changed with the birth and death of their premature daughter. Father Nielsen buried Fiona Ailish in the parish cemetery months into their new marriage.

Fr. Anthony Aaklua held the first year memorial Mass without Kila, as with God’s blessing, she had given birth to Aidan Scott on the eve of his sister’s birthday, October 16, 2007. Aidan was also premature, born at 31 weeks gestation. His three-pound 12-ounce body grew so well he was able to be home from the hospital for Thanksgiving.

The family was blessed with two more sons: Liam Michael, born May 18, 2009, and Quinlan Patrick, born May 19, 2011. Both Aidan and Liam were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of two.

Their father Scott is a sprinkler-fitter and a member of St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus. The Knights have helped the Hagie family over the past few years. They have built a fence around the home to help slow down any darting behavior, funded an iPad mini for Liam’s communication progress, and now are helping the family obtain a service dog. Kila is a stay at home mother who has just finished school as a radiology technologist.

As a benefit for the Hagie family, the St. Mary Help of Christians Knights of Columbus Council 12709 will have a spaghetti dinner on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 14, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A free-will offering for the dinner will be used for the service dog and on-going medical needs of the Hagie family. A parish bake sale during dinner and on Sunday, Feb. 15, after Mass will also be offered for the family.
