Fr. Kevin Cassidy dies

SUN CITY, Ariz. — A Mass of Christian Burial for Fr. Kevin William Cassidy will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 9728 W. Palmeras Dr., Sun City, Ariz., on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 9 a.m.

Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted of Phoenix will be the main celebrant with Fr. Raymond W. Greco, OSB, as homilist.

Visitation will be Friday, March 6, from 8 a.m. until the start of Mass; recitation of the Rosary will begin at 8:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church.

Interment will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Phoenix, Ariz., at a later date.

Father Cassidy died on February 24, 2015, at the age of 80, at Arrowhead Assisting Living in Glendale, Ariz. He was born on May 27, 1934, in Arva, County Cavan, Ireland, and is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Jennie Cassidy.

After attending grade school at Sacred Heart National School in Arva, County Cavan, Ireland, Father Cassidy attended high school and college at St. Patrick College. His collegiate studies included St. Kieran, Kilkenny Ireland, where he completed his collegiate studies in philosophy, and St. Meinrad Seminary, Saint Meinrad, Ind., where he studied theology.

He was ordained by Bishop William P. O’Connor on May 28, 1960, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.

Father Cassidy served the Diocese of Madison as associate pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Baraboo, and director of Camp Gray, Baraboo. He served as pastor of St. Mary of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, Pardeeville, with the mission of St. Andrew Parish, Buffalo; as pastor of St. Cecilia Parish, Wisconsin Dells; and as pastor St. Mary Parish, Pine Bluff, where he retired from in 2002.

During his years of service to the Diocese of Madison, Father Cassidy served as the state chaplain for the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officers’ Association and as national chaplain for the Elks Fraternal Organization.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Ave., Chicago, Ill 60614. Mass cards can be sent to Father Cassidy’s sister: Mrs. Jean Gillette, 8765 McCarty Ranch Dr., San Jose, CA 95135.
