Wisconsin is becoming battle ready!

On February 21, 2018
Fr. Rick Heilman

Guest Column

If you’re looking to go deeper and grow stronger in your faith, to know more about your purpose and call to action as a Christian, or if you’re struggling to connect with your spouse, friend, or loved one about the faith, then you need to experience the BATTLE READY Rally!

A BATTLE READY Rally is a 90-minute talk on what spiritual battle actually looks like, how to identify it and prepare for it, and how to engage in it. These three components are key for those of us who are here on earth as the Church Militant.

Spiritual battle

Doug Barry, Catholic speaker and founder of RADIX and BATTLE READY ministry, draws from Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Christ’s own words, and the words of our saints and popes to emphasize the reality of the spiritual fight that we are engaged in.

Doug also points out the resources we must take advantage of on a regular basis such as prayer, sacraments, and Scripture. “There is emphasis on mental and physical care for ourselves, as well, so we can be ready at a moment’s notice to fulfill our responsibilities not only to ourselves but to those who are entrusted to our care,” says Doug.

Founder of RADIX and  BATTLE READY Rally

Doug Barry is known to be matter of fact, straightforward, and dynamic. His passion and enthusiasm are not only encouraging, but contagious.

As a Catholic speaker, Doug has traveled both nationally and internationally since 1991 as the founder and director of RADIX.

In early 2011, the term BATTLE READY came into play as an initiative of RADIX, and shortly after this, the BATTLE READY Rally was born.

Parishes across the country have since requested this rally for their parishioners and the feedback has been incredible. Ninety percent of the time, half to two-thirds of the audience will take advantage of the Sacrament of Confession when it’s made available after a BATTLE READY Rally.

Husbands, wives, young adults, and children call, write, and tell Doug in person how their lives have been changed because of the BATTLE READY Rally. Perhaps one of the most encouraging and powerful changes is men and women admitting that, after this rally, they felt equipped with the knowledge and know-how they needed to become the men and women God made them to be.

The show BATTLE READY now airing on EWTN is based on the rally, and Doug is the host on the BATTLE READY television show. Previously, he was also seen as the co-host for EWTN’s Life on the Rock.

Rallies coming  to Wisconsin

Doug Barry is bringing his proven and powerful BATTLE READY Rallies to Wisconsin from February 24 to March 2, including two stops in the Diocese of Madison. The first rally will be Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., where I will be joining Doug as a speaker at St. Cecilia Parish in Wisconsin Dells.

Doug will then speak across all five Wisconsin dioceses from Monday through Friday, Feb. 26 to March 2, at the following parishes sponsored by the Wisconsin State Council Knights of Columbus. For the last BATTLE READY Rally, Doug will join me again at my parish, St. Mary of Pine Bluff.

• Saturday, Feb. 24 — St. Cecilia, Wisconsin Dells, 9 a.m.

• Monday, Feb. 26  — St. James the Less, La Crosse, 6:30 p.m.

• Tuesday, Feb. 27  — St. Paul, Plainfield, 6:30 p.m.

• Wednesday, Feb. 28  — St. Monica, Whitefish Bay, 7 p.m.

• Thursday, March 1  — St. Joseph, Rice Lake, 7 p.m.

• Friday, March 2  — St. Mary, Pine Bluff, 6 p.m.

So, whether you are simply looking to go deeper and grow stronger in our Catholic faith, or you are fighting to connect with a spouse, family member, or colleague on faith and morals, then you need to experience the BATTLE READY Rally.

It’s about a battle that each and every one of us is in, and it’s the most important battle of our lives. Your soul and the souls of the people in your care are counting on it!

Fr. Rick Heilman is the pastor of St. Mary Parish in Pine Bluff and the state chaplain of the Knights of Columbus.
