IHM run/walk May 18

On May 3, 2012April 9, 2025
--

MONONA — What do you get when you mix Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHM) in Monona; six mascots; four students performing the National Anthem; a logo designed by students; free ice cream; a guest emcee who is not only a local radio personality but an alumni of IHM School; great music; a bunch of door prizes; a bunch of medals; some trophies; food for sale; a giant inflatable finisher’s arch; a certified 5K course; a one mile course; and over 200 excited runners?

You get the 2012 IHM 5K and One Mile Run/Walk. Entering its seventh year, the event is bigger and better than ever before. With great sponsorship and eager participants the event is promising to be one for the ages.

All proceeds from this event benefit the IHM School Athletic Program.

Race registration details

Race day is Friday, May 18. The location is IHM School, 4913 Schofield St., in Monona. On-site registration and packet pickup begins at 4:30 p.m. The mascot race is at 6:05 p.m. and the 5K and one mile race start at 6:30 p.m.

Food will be available for purchase during the event. All participants and volunteers will be eligible for door prizes.

People are invited to register online before Saturday, May 12, at www.ihmrace.com for $18. Registration the day of the event is $20. T-shirts are guaranteed only to those who register on or before May 12.

Family friendly event

This family friendly race runs through the residential streets of Monona. All are invited to attend and participate — from young to older and from competitive racers to casual walkers.

Spectators are certainly welcome but we would rather see you out on the course.

IHM is excited to announce that the 5K course is now certified by the USATF (#WI12014DM). Meaning, it is accurately measured, eligible for records, and runners can confidently compare or set their 5K PR on the course. This is a fast and flat course with 100 paved surface. The difference between the highest and lowest elevation is 10 meters.

New scholarship program

New this year is a scholarship program for those who may not be able to afford the entry fee. This scholarship program is made possible through the generous race sponsors. The program is being administered by Sara Latimer, principal of IHM School.

The race mission is: “To support the athletic programs at Immaculate Heart of Mary School and promote an active lifestyle for children and adults.”

Help IHM fulfill that mission. Go to www.ihmrace.com for more information or to register.
