Attorney to speak on immigration issues

On July 11, 2019
Kevin Wondrash

MADISON — Asylum seeker or illegal alien? Attorney Sara Dady, an expert on immigration law, will respond to this question when she addresses the issues surrounding the current influx of immigrants from Central America.

She will speak on Wednesday, July 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the St. Dennis Parish Center, 413 Dempsey Rd.

Dady, Rockford, Ill., has been practicing family-based immigration law for over 13 years. Her cases involve obtaining visas for victims of domestic violence and other crimes, asylum law, and deportation defense.

Very few people living far north of the U.S. border with Mexico hear personal stories from immigrants that make the issue real and immediate. Most have to rely on conflicting reports in the media to inform themselves about what is happening at the border. This makes it difficult to know what the Catholic faith calls us to do in response to the situation there.

The United States Catholic Conference of Bishops has a wealth of statements and background information regarding Catholics’ moral obligations toward this most recent influx of immigrants.

The American bishops also have a campaign with its own website, Justice for Immigrants, addressing the situation, and Wisconsin’s bishops have issued statements on immigration, federal immigration reform, and the treatment of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) youth. Information on these resources will be available at the July 17 meeting.
