Light of the World Retreat

On October 8, 2015
Cathy Lins, Catholic Herald Correspondent

WATERLOO — The volunteer leaders at Holy Family Parish in Waterloo will lead the Light of the World Retreat (LOTW) November 13 to 16.

People throughout the Diocese of Madison are invited to attend the weekend program. Ideally, people will come for the four days: Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday, and Monday evening.

The LOTW Evangelization Process promotes parish outreach to welcome back those who have left the Church, while inviting all those who seek a deeper, more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.

Beyond a weekend retreat, Light of the World supports participants’ long-term faith journey, with small group support, continuing spiritual education, and engagement as disciples.

The previous retreats at Holy Family Parish had been led by LOTW staff from the national office, with progressively more leadership from the local parish each time. This one will be led by parishioners only.

According to Fr. Jorge Miramontes, pastor, this is “a whole weekend for God.” He said, “Even if you give God a day, He will give you a whole lot more in response. I have seen how people come for a day and receive more than they expected.”

This retreat can be a life-changing one. Father Miramontes said, “It’s leading you to Christ Jesus Himself! This retreat invites you to accept Jesus as your number one person, as your Lord and Savior. The retreat calls you and wants to lead people to really have a personal encounter with Jesus and a deeper relationship with Him through the Church and the sacraments.”

He reported that some have been touched by the witness shared during the retreat, and he has seen people changed by the experience.

Hours of the retreat are Friday, Nov. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 14, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Monday, Nov. 16, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Register by calling Carol Anderson at 608-655-8266 or 608-774-9583 or emailing [email protected]

Past participants of LOTW retreats are welcome to return for the retreat. If they can’t attend all of it, they are encouraged to come Sunday by 5 p.m.
