On May 26, 2016
Kevin Wondrash

MONONA — Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Parish will hold the Support Our Athletic Race (S.O.A.R.) on Sunday, May 29, starting at 3:30 p.m. at IHM School, 4913 Schofield St.

The family-friendly 5K and one-mile courses run through the residential streets of Monona. All are invited to attend and participate in this community event.

Nearly 200 runners, joggers, and walkers participated in last year’s events. All participants under the age of 13 receive a medal.

The race will be followed by IHM’s Parish Festival. Kids’ activities, food, and beverages will be available for purchase.

The race entry fee includes: a cinch sack with a water bottle (new this year), one free sandwich ticket (excludes pulled pork), one free drink ticket (non-alcoholic), and one free run through the bouncy obstacle course (ages 15 and younger). All participants and volunteers will be eligible for door prizes.

The 5K course is USATF Certified — Course Number: WI12014DM. The course is accurately measured and eligible for records. This is a fast and flat course with 100 percent paved surface. The difference between the highest and lowest elevation is 10 meters.

The course records are: Female 20:46 set in 2014 and Male 17:55 set in 2015.

On-site registration and pack pickup is available from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The 5K race starts at 3:30 p.m. and the one mile race begins at 3:35 p.m. Awards will be announced at 4:35 p.m.

Scholarships are available to those who are not able to afford the entry fee. Contact Mrs. Mary Bartsch, principal of IHM School, for more information at 608-222-8831.

The race’s mission is: “To support athletic programming at Immaculate Heart of Mary School and promote an active lifestyle for children and adults.”

For more information on the race, course maps, or to register, visit: www.ihmrace.com

All race proceeds benefit the IHM Athletic Program.
