Seventh annual Pick-a-Pack Weekend supports St. Vincent de Paul garden

On April 28, 2016

COTTAGE GROVE — Shoppers at America’s Best Flowers Garden Center in Cottage Grove can help stock the shelves at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

People can donate $1.99 vegetable transplant four-packs to the Lacy Pantry Garden during Pick-a-Pack weekend, starting at 12 noon Friday, April 29, until Sunday, May 1, at 5 p.m.

“We like to provide nutritious and healthy selections for our pantry shoppers. It’s a way to get veggies of farmer’s market-fresh quality to Dane County families that might not otherwise be able to buy them,” said Lacy Garden Coordinator Thomas Parslow.

The Lacy Garden is a volunteer-run pantry garden that supplies the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry with wholesome veggies and fruits. The 1.25 acres garden typically yields up to 25,000 pounds of fresh and local harvest with the care of its dozens of volunteer gardeners.

Since 2010, America’s Best Flowers, 4311 Vilas Hope Rd. in Cottage Grove, has supported the Lacy Garden with Pick-a-Pack weekend. With each four-pack donated, America’s Best Flowers will donate 50 cents to Lacy Garden.

For more information about Pick-a-Pack weekend or the Lacy Pantry Garden, contact Thomas Parslow at [email protected] or America’s Best Flowers Garden Center at 608-222-2269.
