Bishop Morlino to celebrate Pontifical Mass at the Throne

On December 3, 2014
Kevin Wondrash

MADISON — On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Monday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., Bishop Robert C. Morlino will celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Throne at the Bishop O’Connor Pastoral Center, 702 S. High Point Rd., in Madison.

The Feast, or Solemnity, of the Immaculate Conception, which this year falls on a Monday, is a holy day of obligation in the United States because Mary, under the title of Immaculate Conception, is patroness of the nation.

The Pontifical Mass is organized by the Tridentine Mass Society of Madison

On November 3, Bishop Morlino celebrated a Pontifical Requiem Mass for a full church. The music was the Requiem for Four Voices by Tomás Luis de Victoria. On Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, Bishop Morlino will celebrate a Pontifical Mass for the Feast of the Purification of Mary, also known as Candlemas. Candles will be blessed and there will be the traditional procession.

The Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite is the term used to describe Catholic liturgical worship in the Latin Church as it was at the time of the Second Vatican Council (1962 to 1965). Although liturgical worship underwent a reform at the close of the council, the older traditional forms have remained in use.

In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI expanded the use of the traditional Roman Catholic liturgical books. In the Diocese of Madison, Mass in the Extraordinary Form is celebrated in several places. For times and locations, visit www.latinmassmadison.org
