Rosary Rallies for religious liberty Christ the King Parish, McFarland

On September 3, 2015
Julie Allington, For the Catholic Herald

MCFARLAND — How do we show love to those who are hostile to us because of our Christian beliefs? How do we persevere in the faith when others would like to eliminate God and religion from this country?

What can we do to bring the light of Christ’s truth and mercy to the attacks on our religious liberty?

The most important thing we can do is to recognize that these are spiritual battles and we must counter them with prayer — the Holy Rosary being the greatest weapon in our arsenal.

Rosary Rallies

Christ the King Parish in McFarland is holding Tuesday Rosary Rallies through October 2015 at their outdoor Marian garden.

At the kick-off rally on June 23, Fr. Steve Smith, pastor of Christ the King Parish, gave an overview of the challenges currently being faced and led the praying of the Holy Rosary.

Each subsequent rally has begun with the Catholic response to a challenge to our religious liberty, taken from Pope Francis, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and other sources, followed by a related prayer intention.

Topics for the rest of the Rosary Rallies are: Following God’s Law (September 8), Serving Each Other (September 15), One Family (September 22), Walking Together (September 29), Sharing God’s Goodness (October 6), Spirit of Light and Love (October 13), Divine Mercy (October 20), and Protecting Religious Liberty (October 27).

Participants have included members from four parishes and some from as far away as Iowa, and range in age from seven to over 70 years. Each rally has been blessed with beautiful weather, although the chapel is available for inclement weather.

After Labor Day, the rallies will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Rosaries and prayer guides are available and a volunteer will lead the Rosary. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

For questions, more information, or to request a free Rosary Rally booklet with the weekly meditations, contact Julie Allington at 608-838-8324 or [email protected]
