Sauk City parish joins 40 Days for Life efforts

On September 25, 2014
Kevin Wondrash

SAUK CITY — Divine Mercy Parish is joining with volunteer efforts in Madison and around the world by involving students and parishioners in pro-life opportunities during 40 Days for Life.

From September 24 to November 2, Madison and surrounding communities are uniting with hundreds of locations across America, as well as other countries, for the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history — the international 40 Days for Life campaign.

40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign that has generated measurable lifesaving results. A documented 8,973 lives have been spared from abortion, and these are just the ones that are known. In addition, 56 abortion facilities have closed, 101 abortion workers have quit their jobs, and more than 625,000 people have joined to fast and pray in 629 cities and 24 nations for an end to abortion.

Three components

The 40 Days for Life campaign is made up of three key components:

  • Prayer and fasting: Inviting people of faith throughout the diocese to join together for 40 days of fervent prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. The two go hand in hand. Pray outside an abortion facility. Pray at church. Pray at work. Pray in your car. Pray at home with your family. Fast from certain foods, TV, alcohol, coffee, or anything that helps in this form of physical prayer.
  • Peaceful vigil: Join in the visible, public centerpiece of 40 Days for Life in a focused, 40-day non-stop round-the-clock prayer vigil outside Planned Parenthood, 3706 Orin Rd., Madison. For more information, contact Gwen at 608-393-8545 or [email protected]
  • Community outreach: Taking a positive, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of our country through media efforts, church presentations, and public visibility.
In Sauk City

St. Aloysius Church at 115 Madison St. in Sauk City is promoting 40 Days for Life locally by hosting special scheduled prayer opportunities for all who wish to join together in prayer.

The scheduled dates include: Wednesday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m., Adoration and pro-life Rosary in church; Friday, Sept. 26, after 8:15 a.m. Mass, pro-life Rosary in church led by St. Aloysius school students/teachers; and Adoration and pro-life Rosary in church at 7 p.m. on these dates: Wednesday, Oct. 1; Wednesday, Oct. 8; Wednesday, Oct. 15; Wednesday, Oct. 22.; and Wednesday Oct. 29.

Elementary, middle, and high school religious education students will also be joining in pro-life prayers in their classrooms throughout the 40 days.

All are invited to join in these prayer opportunities and be rewarded in multiple ways. For example, a couple, who initially entered Planned Parenthood in Madison, changed their minds after seeing Rosaries in the hands of two praying volunteers. They came out and found out about the free services at the Women‘s Care Center. They came out later shouting, “We’re going to have a baby! All glory to God!”
