Opportunities for adults to learn more about faith

On September 15, 2016
Kevin Wondrash

MADISON — As the 2016-17 school year kicks off, the Diocese of Madison has new opportunities for adults to learn in the Seat of Wisdom Diocesan Institute (SWDI).

The SWDI is a program offered by the Diocese of Madison to give interested adults an opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith in a systematic and comprehensive manner. It is an opportunity to study the basic pillars of the faith along with other in-depth theological studies.

Beginning this month, there is a new schedule of courses available at the Holy Name Heights along with coursework available in various locations around the diocese.

Basic coursework is offered on Saturdays each month and one weekday each month to accommodate varying schedules. Courses are held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Holy Name Heights.

There is also a series of courses this year offered by Abbot Marcel Rooney entitled “The History and Theology of the Mass: Liturgy From Vatican II and Beyond” on one Saturday each month from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Holy Name Heights beginning September 17.

The schedule for some upcoming Seat of Wisdom Courses offered at Holy Name Heights are as follows:

• Saturday, Sept. 17 — “The History and Theology of the Mass: Liturgy from Vatican II and Beyond” (part one)

• Wednesday, Oct. 5 — “Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church“

• Saturday, Oct. 8 — “The History and Theology of the Mass: Liturgy from Vatican II and Beyond” (part two)

• Saturday, Oct. 15 — “Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church“

• Saturday, Nov. 5 — “The History and Theology of the Mass: Liturgy from Vatican II and Beyond” (part three)

• Saturday, Nov. 12 — “Sacred Scripture and the Bible Timeline”

• Wednesday, Nov. 16 — “Sacred Scripture and the Bible Timeline”

• Saturday, Dec. 3 — “The History and Theology of the Mass: Liturgy from Vatican II and Beyond” (part four)
