
Sister Catherine Kelter, who lived her religious vocation as a teacher and administrator, died at Our Lady of the Angels in Greenfield, Wisconsin, on January 26, 2025. Sister Catherine was 91 years old.
Sister Catherine was born on November 25, 1933, in Waunakee, Wisconsin. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 13, 1951; made her first profession of vows on June 21, 1953; and final (perpetual) vows on June 21, 1955.
Sister is survived by her sister, Mary (George) Zimmerman of Madison, Wisconsin; many friends; and by the School Sisters of St. Francis community with whom she shared life for 74 years.
Beginning in 1955, Sister Catherine ministered in Wisconsin and New York. In the Diocese of Madison, Sister served as pastoral minister at Nativity of St. Mary Parish in Janesville from 1984 to 2009.
Sister Catherine retired in 2009 and ministered through prayer and presence at St. Joseph Convent in Milwaukee (2009-2011) and at Our Lady of the Angels from 2011 until her death.
A funeral Liturgy was held on February 6 at St. Joseph Hall in Milwaukee, followed by a burial service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.
