Catholic Herald Staff

SINSINAWA — Sister Lynn Lisbeth, OP, died Oct 31, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Alita. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Nov. 9, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Sister Lynn made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1965, and her perpetual profession Nov. 26, 1970. She taught for 10 years and served as liturgist for 15 years; pastoral minister for eight years; and in adult faith formation for nine years. Sister Lynn was a general councilor for the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa for six years. She lived beyond the limitation of low vision and appreciated the experiences that living in different states made available to her. Sister Lynn remained humble while being dedicated to her ministries, and her warmth and smile welcomed all she encountered. She served in Wisconsin, New York, Montana and Alaska.

In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Lynn taught at St. John Vianney, Janesville, 1967-1972, and served as liturgist at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1977-1980; liturgist and director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Madison, 1986-1992; and general councilor for the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, Sinsinawa, 2000-2006. Sister Lynn guided adults in their faith formation as a pastoral minister, retreat and workshop leader, and spiritual director in the Madison area, 2007-2016.

Sister Lynn was born Oct. 24, 1945, in Jonesboro, Ark., the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Hagen) Lisbeth. Her parents and a brother, the Rev. Michael Lisbeth, SM, preceded her in death. She is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Lisbeth and James Lisbeth; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 56 years of religious life.

Memorials may be made to the Sinsinawa Dominicans, 585 County Road Z, Sinsinawa, WI, 53824-9701 or at www.sinsinawa.org/donate online.
