Sr. Ann O’Hara, OP, dies

SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Ann O’Hara, OP, died February 2, 2020, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Michaud. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, February 7, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Sister Ann made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1950, and her perpetual profession August 5, 1953. She taught for 38 years and served as a pastoral minister for 15 years. Sister Ann shared her gift of being present with people in the tender moments of life and celebrated the joyous moments with delight. She served in Minnesota, Alabama, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Ann taught at St. Raphael, Madison, 1965-1970; St. Dennis, Madison, 1970-1972; St. John Vianney, Janesville, 1972-1979; St. Jerome, Columbus, 1979-1982; and St. Joseph, Baraboo, 1986-1988. She served as pastoral minister at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1992-1997.

Sister Ann was born August 31, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Michael and Bridget (Durkin) O’Hara. Her parents; four sisters, Catherine Brannigan, Helen Hassett, Sr. Mary Elizabeth (Caelan) O’Hara, OP, and Beatrice Hopman; and six brothers, the Reverend Michael O’Hara, John O’Hara, the Reverend James O’Hara, Hugh O’Hara, Thomas O’Hara, and the Reverend Martin O’Hara, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 69 years of religious life.
