St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital, clinic project gets green light

JANESVILLE — SSM Health Care of Wisconsin and Dean Health System announced recently they are moving forward with building the new St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital and Dean Clinic Janesville.

Signs of recovery in the investment markets coupled with an improving economy and an even closer eye on operational expenses have provided a solid foundation to move forward. Final drawings are in process and the construction phase will start in October.

“It’s a great day for Janesville and a ray of hope for our local economy,” said Mary Starmann-Harrison, regional president and CEO, SSM Health Care of Wisconsin. “We’re ready to move full speed ahead and get this medical campus up and running.”

“We’ve been extremely busy for the past several months planning all aspects of the project and now we’re getting all of the necessary approvals in place to start moving some dirt,” said Kerry Swanson, president of St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital.

“The Dean Riverview Clinic has supported the Janesville community for nearly 100 years and with the completion of this campus we look forward to supporting the community for many years to come,” said Dr. Craig Samitt, president and CEO of Dean Health System.

“With the challenging times that Janesville has experienced over the recent year, we at Dean and SSM Health Care of Wisconsin are so very proud to be able to support the Janesville community with new quality jobs and growth.”

Much work has been finished, including the site plan, a design for the new facility, and the hiring of a president of the hospital. Renderings of the campus along with a virtual fly-by video of both facilities are available at www.healthyjanesville.com

Construction should begin to be visible on the campus sometime in October. It will take about 24 months to complete construction, putting an opening of the new medical campus in late 2011.
