Urge representatives to vote against Senate bill

To the editor:

You are urgently needed to contact Representative Ron Kind or Tammy Baldwin and urge them to vote against H.R. 3590, the Senate version of health care reform.  This bill contains a huge expansion of abortion by using taxpayer funds to pay for health care premium subsidies and to pay for abortions in Community Health Centers.

In addition, there are no adequate conscience protections for health care professionals and facilities that do not want to participate in abortions.

Abortion decisions violate intentions of founders

To the editor:

In the Declaration of Independence, it states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

In the 14th amendment it states: “nor shall any State deprive any person of life . . . nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Senate version of health care bill expands taxpayer funding of abortion

The Senate version of Obamacare, despite rhetoric to the contrary,would greatly expand the federal government’s role in abortion coverage and even direct payment for abortions at taxpayer expense.

The House version which includes the Stupak/Pitts language would negate all of the following problems in the Senate version:

Pro-life persistence does pay off

Mother Teresa has been quoted as saying, “I do not pray for success; I pray for faithfulness.” Many people in the pro-life movement haven’t seen much success in the past 37 years, but they have continued to be faithful in fighting for the lives of unborn babies.

The January 22, 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade which legalized abortion set in motion a fierce debate in this country. The court decision has not been overturned, but there are signs of hope as we begin the year 2010.

What are you doing to help ‘high risk’ babies killed by abortion?

To the editor:

Did you know that in this 21st century, with the latest modern medical technology, the majority of pre-born human babies are at “high risk?” At “high risk?” Yes, at “high risk.” It’s not from heart disease, diabetes, or any other treatable medical condition.

Many babies are at the “high risk” of never being born. I know this is hard to believe. Especially to each person who has held a newborn baby. Or who has seen the light in the eyes of the mother and father looking at their child/children.

I read with interest the bishops’ statement in the Catholic Herald on health care reform and also Kim Wadas’ “Amendment preserves long standing protection.”

What protection? The last time I read the Bible the Fifth Commandment was “You shall not kill.” So how could “the Catholic bishops pledge continued efforts to keep abortion neutral”?
