That’s what Madison artist Jeremiah Logemann is asking. He obtained the steeple that used to grace the top of St. Raphael Cathedral in downtown Madison.

Our Lady Queen of Peace students raise money for Australia in online art auction

MADISON — Third to eighth graders at Our Lady Queen of Peace School have been busy creating art in hopes of raising money to help the Australian community recover from the devastating bushfires.

For the past few months students have been painting, drawing, sketching, coloring, and creating art pieces that they will auction off in an online auction. Each class chose their favorite pieces to give to the auction.

Evangelizing through the good

Anyone even vaguely acquainted with my work knows that I advocate vigorous argument on behalf of religious truth. I have long called for a revival in what is classically known as apologetics, the defense of the claims of faith against skeptical opponents. And I have repeatedly weighed in against a dumbed-down Catholicism.

Also, I have, for many years, emphasized the importance of beauty in service of evangelization. The Sistine Chapel Ceiling, the Sainte Chapelle, Dante’s Divine Comedy, Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion, T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets, and the Cathedral of Chartres all have an extraordinary convincing power, in many ways surpassing that of formal arguments.

BELOIT — A Spring Sing and Art Walk will be presented for parents and the public on Wednesday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Grade School (OLA) gymnasium.

Pilgrimage: Sign of Christian hope

The Catholic Encyclopedia says, “A pilgrimage may be described as a journey to a sacred shrine or sanctuary for a religious motive.”

People have been making such special journeys for centuries. A pilgrimage expresses one’s faith — for a person believes that God is present in a special way at a particular shrine, because of the holy person(s) who lived or died there, and because of the holy things that happened in history there.

Illuminating the Word: St. John’s Bible pilgrimage

MADISON — Original art pieces from the St. John’s Illuminated Bible are now on exhibit at the Chazen Art Museum on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

Commissioned by St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville, Minn., the St. John’s Bible is the first handwritten and illustrated Bible to be commissioned in over 500 years. It is a beautiful work of art featuring 160 artworks or “illuminations.” Those who have already visited the exhibit recommend it very highly.
