Good Friday Tenebrae scheduled in Baraboo

BARABOO — St. Joseph Parish will again celebrate the beautiful and peaceful Tenebrae service on Good Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. Tenebrae, which means “shadows” in Latin, dates to the ancient Church.

The service incorporates light, music, Scripture, and prayer to focus on Jesus’ passion — his betrayal, abandonment, and agony. The Passion narrative is told in readings, followed by Scripture and a musical reflection.

Movie to be shown as benefit for care center

BARABOO — The highly acclaimed movie God’s Not Dead will be showing at the historic Al Ringling Theatre, 136 4th Ave., on the square in downtown Baraboo, on Sunday, March 22, at 3 p.m.

It is being sponsored by the SALT (Salt and Light Together) Ministry of St. Joseph Parish in Baraboo and is open to the public.

Men’s retreat at St. Joseph Parish, Baraboo

BARABOO — On Saturday, Jan. 24, St. Joseph Parish will host a one-day men’s retreat titled, “Living Supernaturally.”

Featured speakers include Fr. Rick Heilman and Scott Hackl. Father Heilman is the founder of the Catholic men’s apostolate Knights of Divine Mercy, founder of the Holy League, and regular on Relevant Radio.

Hackl is the father of six and advancement director working on a $24 million campaign to rebuild St. Paul’s University Catholic Center in Madison.

Lessons and Carols in Baraboo

BARABOO — An Advent Festival of Seven Lessons and Carols will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Church 304 East St., Baraboo

The Advent Festival is an ecumenical celebration of the season of Advent. It is an opportunity to help prepare for the coming of our Lord and Savior on Christmas.

Respect Life Retreat to be held at Durward’s Glen

BARABOO — The Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Vigil for Life will host the seventh annual Respect Life Retreat at Durward’s Glen Retreat and Conference Center in Baraboo on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19 and 20.

They are inviting anyone who works and/or prays to build a culture of life and who recognizes that this effort is ultimately the Lord’s battle to save souls and protect innocent lives from conception until natural death. All people of good will are welcomed.

Durward’s Glen to host Fall Festival

BARABOO — Durward’s Glen will host its 2014 Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at W11876 McLeisch Rd. in Baraboo.

Vendors will be set up in and around the Main Lodge and Artist’s Cottage, allowing visitors a look inside these historic buildings. Vendors can still register for outside spots by contacting Cathy Lins at 608-356-8113 or emailing [email protected]

BARABOO — St. Clare of Assisi, the patron saint after whom St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo was named, has been described in history as “full of light” or “radiant.”

Her guiding light continues to be a beacon that illuminates the exceptional health care ministry practiced throughout the community as part of the SSM Health Care mission at the St. Clare Hospital campus in Baraboo and its clinic facilities in the Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton area.

‘Running of the Rose’ at Durward’s Glen

BARABOO — To pay special tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Silver Rose Run, which involves running three Silver Roses from Ontario through the U.S. to Monterey, Mexico. The “Running of the Rose” will journey to Durward’s Glen where a special service will be held Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m. at the Mary Mother of God Grotto.

Following the procession of the rose by Fourth Degree Knights, Deacon Dennis Sutter will guide those attending through the Rosary, Liturgy of the Word, and Act of Consecration.

Baraboo students’ artwork on display

MADISON — Students from throughout the southern half of Wisconsin, including St. Joseph Catholic School in Baraboo, worked on nature-based art “messages” that will be sent to Cuba through the Children Are The Hope (CATH) program.

Students from 14 Wisconsin and Cuban schools took part in the environmental and cultural education program and international art exchange during the 2013 to 2014 school year.

Gallery hosts exhibit

From May 26 to 31, the Common Wealth Gallery in Madison will host a collection of nature-based artwork created by the fourth and fifth grade students and similar-aged students from northcentral Cuba.
