We know what it’s like to lose a cathedral

On the morning of March 14, 2005, I was awakened with news that smoke was billowing out of the roof, spire, and bell tower of St. Raphael Cathedral in downtown Madison.

Our reporter then, Julianne Nornberg, traveled quickly to the scene of the fire, which had started at 5:31 a.m. Firefighters were on the scene at 5:39 a.m., and they worked to control the fire caused — we found out later — by an arsonist.

Unfortunately, the fire destroyed the roof of St. Raphael Cathedral, which collapsed into the church. The 150-year-old church was destroyed. A new spire, which had been raised to the top of the cathedral’s spire in 2014, was saved.

HUBERTUS, Wis. — The relic of the Incorruptible Heart of St. Jean (John) Vianney will be available for veneration at the Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill in Hubertus on Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 23 and 24.

A six-month tour is taking the holy relic of the saint — popularly known as the Cure d’Ars — across the United States. The heart relic of St. Jean Vianney will visit cathedrals, churches, chapels, and seminaries.

What is there to celebrate about Vatican II?

Over the last 50 years, we have seen many incredible changes in our Roman Catholic religion, even the use of the word “Roman” seems to have been eliminated. I wonder that anyone realizes what it used to be like before the “open window/fresh air” policy of liberalism was welcomed in.

Recent discussions about the use of Gregorian chant at Mass and whether or not birth control and abortion are sins, in my estimation, are just a couple of examples of the confusion within the Roman Catholic Church, oops … Catholic Church, today!
